My life after leaving Buffalo upon graduation took me to Tufts University where I became class president More…and a national debating champion, while becoming one of the worst folksingers on the then flourishing coffee house circuit. Went on to Yale Law School, met my wife Aviva whose roommate I knew from friends at BU, got married upon graduation, and then to Atlanta for what became r really rocky career path. Eventually by sheer luck, I blundered into the field of health care and HMOs and became a nationally known expert quickly to the point where I was managing my first health plan at 31. Got fired from that one, political correctness never was a high priority (I was voted "most irreverent at WHS" so I became an unemployed consultant. After rolling in and out of law and consulting, I started a boutique health care management firm that became one of the largest in the country over 14 years.
I was owning a couple of HMOs which I purchased as a turn-around opportunity rather than a liquidator and the next thing I knew, I have spend the last 8 years defending myself against the U.S. Justice Department in what I can only describe as a corrupt cover up.
Thankfully, our two sons Jeff and David, the former in Chicago and the later in New York, are wonderful human beings and successful, not always combinations that go together.
I'm in the process of writing a book about the last eight years "When Justice Went Blind" and hoping as we expect it will that this whole matter is about six months away from being reversed. This has been a true test of survivorship, or as one lawyer for me put it, "It's like terminal cancer but you don't get to die."
The truth of what happens in most lives is stranger than fiction.
